Walk for Relief 2025

Written by Grace

On Sunday, 23 January, Walk for Relief 2025 brought together over 220 community members from across the Mornington Peninsula for a 10km journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Point Nepean National Park.

Now in its second year, the event continues to grow in momentum, raising awareness and funds for Mentis Assist, a local organisation dedicated to providing essential mental health support services. With over $50,000 raised so far and donations still coming in, the event highlighted the power of community in fostering meaningful conversations around mental wellbeing. Participation nearly doubled from last year, growing by 180%.

a morning of movement and connection

The day commenced with a serene sunrise yoga session led by Warrior One Yoga, setting the tone for a reflective and mindful journey along the coastline. Participants of all ages gathered at the starting point, ready to walk in solidarity, support a worthy cause, and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.

The 10km route meandered through the park, offering stunning ocean views and fresh sea breezes, enhancing the overall sense of connection to nature. As walkers moved along the trail, conversations flowed, creating a space for individuals to share experiences, reflect on their mental health journeys, and support one another.

The spirit of the walkers even seemed to alter the weather forecast leading up to the event. At the beginning of the week, there was a 55% chance of rain on Sunday morning, but day by day, the forecast improved. By the time the crowd gathered for warm-up yoga, the sky had turned blue. As the leading walkers reached the turning point at Point Nepean, the day had transformed into a beautiful, warm, and sunny experience.

the power of community and conversation

Peninsula Hot Springs co-founder and group chair Charles Davidson officially opened the event, speaking to the importance of community connection and time spent in nature. “As we walked and talked with each other, the sea breeze, sun, spectacular views, and great friendly company opened the way to deep and honest conversations,” he shared. “Walk for Relief was an opportunity to enjoy a 10km walk in our beautiful Mornington Peninsula backyard at Point Nepean with family, friends, and fellow community members.”

Federal Member for Flinders, Zoe McKenzie MP, also participated in the walk, offering personal reflections on the grief of losing her mother last month and the significance of open discussions around mental health. Her words reinforced the event’s purpose: to break down stigma, encourage conversations, and ensure that those in need have access to the right support services.

raising vital funds for mental health support

Walk for Relief 2025 was more than just a walk—it was a community-driven initiative to provide real, tangible support for mental health services. Through event registrations, donations, an auction dinner, and a raffle, funds raised will go directly to Mentis Assist, enabling them to continue their critical work in and outside of the Mornington Peninsula.

The event's impact reached even further with support from nine generous sponsors— Crown Property Services, NAB, Ashfords, Solution One, Mt Buller, HP&CP Australia, Searoad Ferries, Arthurs Seat Eagle, and Made by Fressko. Their contributions were key in making Walk for Relief possible, ensuring that funds raised directly benefit those in need and improve their quality of life.

a focus on wellbeing

The event team prioritised the well-being of all participants. Walk marshals carried water bottles and a first aid kit in an e-bike basket, traveling up and down the route to check in on walkers, provide top-up water, and offer assistance if needed. Thanks to their efforts, there were zero incidents reported during the event.

a heartfelt thank you

As the event concluded, there was an overwhelming sense of gratitude among participants, volunteers, and organisers. Walk for Relief 2025 was a testament to the strength of community and the importance of coming together for a shared cause.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who walked, volunteered, donated, and supported this initiative. Your contributions are making a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most.
