**Whether you’re halfway through a pregnancy or nearing the end of it, some extra time for rest, relaxation and gentle self care is usually very welcome. Growing another human can be hard work, and expectant mothers deserve to feel nurtured and nourished while they prepare for this next chapter of their life. Organising a pregnancy spa day can be an excellent way to treat yourself or pamper a loved one during this special time. **
If you’re wondering about the best way to go about selecting pregnancy treatments and experiences, read on to find out how to approach a rejuvenating visit to Peninsula Hot Springs while pregnant.
The pregnancy spa day as a rite of passage
Regardless of whether you’re having your first baby or your fourth, creating a sense of ritual during pregnancy can be a beautiful way to honour your current phase and reflect on what is coming next. A pregnancy spa day, with its focus on mind-body restoration and returning to self, can help mark your journey towards birth.
Planning a pregnancy safe spa day
Each woman’s experience of pregnancy is different, but there are some general recommendations for a pregnancy safe spa day when it comes to navigating treatments and bathing.
It is usually not advised to receive a massage when pregnant in the first trimester of pregnancy, but the second and third trimesters can be a perfect time to experience the benefits of face and body treatments.
When it comes to bathing, we suggest that expectant guests book in for an indoor private bath as opposed to general bathing. This is because unlike our other pools, the temperature of the indoor private bath can be adjusted to suit the guest. During pregnancy, the core body temperature is higher than normal — so it’s best to avoid immersing oneself in hot pools.
Bathing in a private indoor pool allows pregnant guests to experience the magic of being weightless in a body of water in a way that is safe and comfortable.
The benefits of maternity massage
One of the main benefits of receiving a maternity massage is the relaxation component. Preparing for a baby is typically tiring and stressful, and lying down to unwind on a massage bed purpose-built to support you can be profoundly rejuvenating. Importantly, a prenatal massage can improve sleep, too.
Pregnancy also often brings with it aches and pains, and massage can help ease some of the tension and discomfort associated with a changing body. This includes fluid retention, which can be alleviated through massage.
Our pregnancy spa treatment offerings
Peninsula Hot Springs is a wellness oasis, and it’s important to us that pregnant guests are able to experience the wellbeing effects of visiting us. As such, we are thrilled to offer facials and massage for pregnant women.
Our pregnancy spa treatments include 60- or 90-minute relaxation massages and facials, which have been specially crafted to respond to the needs of expectant mothers. Our pregnancy massage beds are designed for ultimate comfort.
Pregnancy spa package ideas
We offer two very nurturing pregnancy spa package options:
- Our Pregnancy 60-minute Massage and Private Bathe package involves a 60-minute tailored pregnancy massage designed to ease the physical demands on your body and promote lightness and calm.
This package also includes a 45-minute private indoor mineral bath. Our indoor private ceramic baths are situated in pavilions with a window that opens onto a garden. The water temperature can be adjusted to your liking, and private indoor bath guests also have the option to enhance their bath with additives such as Lavender Milk and Essential Oils.
- The Pregnancy 90-minute Spa Treatment and Private Bathe package offers the choice between a 90-minute relaxation massage or a 60-minute Synthesis Organics Rebalance massage plus 30-minute facial. This package also includes a 45-minute indoor private bath.
Both pregnancy spa deals include robe, towel and locker hire.
Enjoying a pregnancy foot massage
During pregnancy, your feet can become sore as a result of carrying around the weight of a growing baby, and fluid can pool around the ankles and feet. For this reason, a pregnancy foot massage can be especially restorative.
Foot massage is included as part of our pregnancy massages. Our spa therapists are specially trained to massage the feet in alignment with pregnancy massage recommendations to ensure the safety of mother and baby.
Things to know about receiving a pregnancy facial
A pregnancy facial can be booked as part of our Pregnancy 90-minute Spa Treatment and Private Bathe package. As with massage, facials can be deeply calming and therefore very welcome during pregnancy. And in the same way the body changes while pregnant, our skin can change too, meaning extra nurturing is required.
Not all types of facials are appropriate during pregnancy. At Peninsula Hot Springs, we use Synthesis Organics in our pregnancy facials — a very gentle, natural, organic range of result-driven skincare products designed to rebalance and nourish your skin.
Meanwhile, our pregnancy spa treatment beds are high quality and extremely comfortable.
Finding the perfect pampering package
If you’re looking for the ultimate pampering package for an expectant loved one, you can create a dreamy day out by enhancing one of our pregnancy packages with breakfast, lunch or dinner. Your guest will enjoy a naturopath-designed S.L.O.W. (seasonal, local, organic, whole) meal in our Spa Dreaming Centre dining room, where she can unwind while wearing a fluffy bathrobe.
To enquire about a pregnancy package with dining or customising spa days for pregnant ladies generally, contact our friendly Reservations team.
You might also like to purchase a gift voucher for your loved one so they can book at a time of their choosing. Of course, we also offer plenty of spa treatments apart from these pregnancy packages, and your recipient has three years to redeem their gift voucher — which gives them the option to select one of our post natal spa treatments if they prefer.

Frequently asked questions
Does Peninsula Hot Springs have pregnancy spa day packages?
We certainly do. Our Pregnancy 60-minute Massage and Private Bathe and Pregnancy 90-minute Spa Treatment and Private Bathe both offer a pregnancy treatment plus a 45-minute private indoor bath.
Can you go on a spa day when pregnant?
Expectant guests can still enjoy the restorative benefits of spa treatments and bathing. We have pregnancy treatments available that are specially designed to accommodate and nurture pregnant women, and our private baths are safe to experience during pregnancy.
What spa facilities can I use when pregnant?
We advise against using our general bathing facilities when pregnant. This is mostly because a person’s core temperature is raised during pregnancy, and hot bathing experiences such as geothermal pools and saunas can put extra stress on the body. However, some pregnant guests visit our general bathing areas and choose to avoid the hotter bathing activities in favour of other experiences such as our outdoor mineral showers, thermoneutral pools, cold plunge pools, the reflexology walk, sun lounges and hammocks. If an expectant guest decides they would like to enter the Bath House or Spa Dreaming Centre for bathing, we ask that they sign a waiver.
Pregnancy spa treatments and private baths (where the water temperature can be adjusted) are the main experiences we recommend for pregnant guests.
