our program
At their heart, Wes Anderson’s stories are ultimately about human connection—finding family, understanding loss, and embracing life’s imperfections with a sense of style, humour, and a well-packed suitcase.
Thursday 3 April 7:30pm | The Grand Budapest Hotel
One of Wes Anderson’s most acclaimed films, The Grand Budapest Hotel is an intricately layered story of adventure, nostalgia, and the fading elegance of the bygone era. Set in the fictional Republic of Zubrowka, the film follows M.Gustave, the charming concierge of the Grand Budapest Hotel, and his devoted lobby boy, Zero Moustafa. When one of the hotel’s wealthy guests, Madame D. dies mysteriously, Gustave is accused of murder and embarks on a thrilling and often hilarious journey to clear his name—complete with a stolen Renaissance painting, an elaborate prison escape, and a ruthless villain.
Thursday 10 April 7pm | Fantastic Mr. Fox
Fantastic Mr. Fox is a stop-motion animated film that stands out in Wes Anderson’s body of work for its blend of whimsical adventure, charming visuals and emotional depth. Mr. Fox, a charming yet impulsive fox, promises his wife, Feliciy Fox, that he will give up his thieving ways after a career of stealing chickens. However, old habits die hard, and Mr. Fox soon goes on a daring heist to rob three wealthy and vicious farmers, leading to a series of comical and often dangerous events. This clever Roald Dahl adaptation explores themes of identity and personal growth, family and legacy as well as adventure versus consequence.
Thursday 17 April 7pm | Isle of the Dogs
A heartfelt story about loyalty, survival and the bond between humans and animals, stop-motion film Isle of the Dogs artistically blends adventure, social commentary and Wes Anderson’s usual eccentricity. Set in dystopian future Japan, a canine flu outbreak leads the city of Megasaki to exile all dogs to a remote island. Atari, a young boy who is the son of the city’s corrupt mayor, goes on a journey to save his exiled dog, where along the way he is met with challenges, political intrigue and moments of tenderness.
Thursday 24 April 7pm | Moonrise Kingdom
Moonrise Kingdom explores the bittersweet nature of growing up, the complexity of relationships and the uncomplicated purity of childhood love as the story follows a 12 year old orphan and boy scout who falls for a precocious girl from a dysfunctional family. As one of Wes Anderson’s most beloved films, it seamlessly blends his signature style of quirky characters, meticulous visuals, and bittersweet nostalgia. It's a coming-of-age story that examines young love, rebellion, and the search for belonging—set against the backdrop of a richly detailed, sun-soaked New England island.
